<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information generating device which can generate optical information by using external light without disposing a light source in the inside of the device, and therefore, to reduce power consumption, to make the device small in size and to simplify the device structure, and to provide an optical information generating device which does not influence the display even when the refractive index anisotropy of an electro-optical material varies in the plane perpendicular to the incident light. SOLUTION: A polarizer, first transparent electrode layer, electro-optical device layer, second transparent electrode layer and reflection layer are disposed in this order by controlling in such a manner that the optical axis of the electro-optical device layer is parallel to the optical path, that the principal axis of the refractive index ellipsoid in the direction perpendicular to the optical path makes 45 deg. angle from the polarization direction of the polarizer and that a voltage to generateπ/2 phase difference of two intrinsic polarized light transmitting through the electro-optical device layer is selectively applied between transparent electrodes of each pixel. Further, a color filter is disposed between the polarizer and first transparent electrode layer or between the second transparent electrode layer and reflection layer.</p> |
