PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium, a recording medium master plate, and a method for manufacturing a recording medium such that the identification of pit tracks and groove tracks and optical detection of pits by an optical pickup or the like can be surely performed, and that the medium conform to the recording and reproducing characteristics specified by the specification of an MD. SOLUTION: Pits 201 and grooves 202 are arranged to form a helical track on the surface of a disk type substrate. The track pitch of the pits 201 is wider than the track pitch of the grooves 202, with the ratio ranging 1.00 to 1.13. The track pitch of the grooves 202 is preferably >=1.50 μm and <1.70 μm. The width of the pits 201 and grooves 202 in the radial direction of the substrate is controlled to be same.
