A process for producing styrene by the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene, characterized in that it comprises (i) a first dehydrogenation step in which a feed gas comprising ethylbenzene and water vapor is fed to yield, in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst, a reaction gas comprising ethylbenzene, styrene, and hydrogen, (ii) an oxidation step in which the reaction gas obtained in the first dehydrogenation step is fed to burn at least part of the hydrogen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst, and (iii) a second dehydrogenation step in which the reaction gas obtained in the oxidation step is fed to yield styrene from the ethylbenzene in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst, and that the rate of carbon dioxide generation in the second dehydrogenation step is kept at less than 2.1 times that in an initial stage of the reaction.
|
