PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base film for a photographic film based on a polyethylene-2, 6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, ensuring a good roll shape when the film is rolled up and reducing defects in the planeness of the film caused by a defective roll shape. SOLUTION: The base film is a biaxially oriented polyethylene-2,6- naphthalenedicarboxylate film having 40-120μm thickness and both side edge parts of the film or these parts and one or more intermediate parts have been embossed. The height of the embosses is 5-40μm, the difference in height between two or more embosses present on a straight line which intersects the machine direction(MD) of the film at right angles is <=7μm and the degree of blocking between such films is third-class or below.
