Hydrated gypsum, eg. in the form of phosphogypsum or desulphurised gypsum, is used at a rate of from 0.25 kg/m3 to 2.5 kg/m3 to destabilise a stabilised slurry containing stable colloidal particles or derived, for example, from alluvial ilmenite deposits or from the treatment of kimberlite. The slurry is thereby separated into a liquid and solid phase. Optionally, a suitable flocculent is added to the destabilised slurry to speed up the separation process.
|
