Electromotive drive and method for operating of an electronic commutated electric motor

The device has an electric motor (2) connected to an a.c. supply via a frequency converter with a controller (9) with a connection for a rotor commutation position desired value signal. A position measurement device measures the rotor position. A comparator (20a,20b) switches off the motor if a maximum value is exceeded by the position measurement signal and/or the desired value signal and/or if their difference is outside a tolerance range. Independent claims are also included for a method of operating an electronically commutated electric motor.
