PURPOSE: A method for paying transportation fees using an IrDA(Infrared Data Association) communication function of a mobile communication terminal is provided to make users pay transportation fees when using subways or buses, by using the IrDA communication function in accordance with IrDA standards of a portable terminal, so that the users can confirm payment details at any time and secure the payment details. CONSTITUTION: A user of a mobile communication terminal selects a method of payment(ST11). A password is inputted(ST12). The mobile communication terminal encodes inputted information by considering security, and transmits the encoded information to a transportation fee processing system(ST13-ST14). The encoded information is transmitted by an IrDA(Infrared Data Association) communication function(ST14). If a card company permits payment, the transportation fee processing system informs the mobile communication terminal of payment details by using an infrared transceiver. The mobile communication terminal stores the payment details in a memory(ST15). If the user wants to confirm the payment details immediately, the user selects a payment confirm function(ST16). A computer of the card company transmits information on the payment details to a CDMA provider(ST17). The payment details are transmitted to the mobile communication terminal through a wireless transmission network(ST18). If the user does not select the payment confirm function, the mobile communication terminal returns to a normal mode(ST19).
