PURPOSE: A vector control apparatus for induction motor is provided to achieve an improved control ability of the control apparatus by continuously estimating and compensating the time constant of rotor through a model reference adaptive control. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a speed controller(2) for outputting a torque current command for compensating for the difference between the speed command and actual speed; a flux controller(9) for outputting a flux current command for compensating for the difference between the rotor flux command and actual rotor flux; a current controller(4) for generating voltage command for flux and voltage command for torque, respectively, through a rotating coordinates control method; a voltage coordinates converter(5) for converting the voltage command for flux and torque from rotating coordinates into fixed coordinates; a three-phase voltage converter(6) for converting the voltage command for flux and torque at the fixed coordinates into a three-phase voltage of fixed coordinates; a two-phase current converter(15) for converting the three-phase current detected during rotation of an induction motor, into the current of d-axis and q-axis of a fixed coordinate system; a current coordinates converter(14) for converting the current of the fixed coordinates output from the two-phase current converter, into the current for actual flux and current for torque of the rotating coordinates; a slip frequency calculator for calculating slip frequency by using the torque current command output from the speed controller, flux current command output from the flux controller, and a rotor time constant; and a rotor time constant estimator(19) for estimating the time constant of rotor by the d-axis and q-axis voltage commands output from the voltage coordinates converter, actual d-axis and q-axis currents output from the two-phase current converter, and the rotation speed output from a speed detector.
