693,208. Centrifugal switches. HOOVER, Ltd. Nov. 29, 1951 [Dec. 2, 1950], No. 28033/51. Class 38 (v) A centrifugal switch which may open the circuit of the starting winding of an induction motor when a sufficient speed has been reached, has two weights 60 which are pivoted by lugs 61 in slots 41 of a rotating support 35 and under the influence of centrifugal force move outwards to cause the longitudinal movement of member 45 against the action of a spring 43 which also keeps the weights in place. The member 45 has projections 47 which engage slots 62 in the weights and forms parts of a member 50 adapted, when the speed lessens, to press against buttons 55 on an annular non-rotating spring plate 24 fixed at its lower end, Fig. 3 so that a contact 22 engages a fixed contact 21. The rotary parts of the switch may all be mounted on a sleeve 30 fixed to the shaft 2 by a screw 32. The weights 60 are readily removable and may carry lead inserts to increase their mass and so vary the operating speed of the switch.
|
