A pneumatic tire comrising a tread portion, a pair of sidewall portions and a pair of bead portions, characterised in that the tread portion is comprised of a rubber composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of at least one rubber selected from natural rubber and diene series synthetic rubbers and (B) 30-70 parts by weight of powdered carbon black having a specific surface area as measured by nitrogen adsorption (N2SA) of 125-1250 m<2>/g and a DBP adsorption number of compressed sample (24M4DBPA) of 80-140 ml/100 g and containing surface functional groups such that the amount of functional group acetylating with acetic anhydride (ACF) and amount of functional group reacting with hydroxylamine to form oximes (OXF) satisfy the relationship:- $[wherein\; ACF\; and\; OXF\; indicates\; milliequivalent\; per\; 1\; g\; of\; carbon\; black\; (meq/g).]$
