A golf tee 16, for use on driving ranges and the like, comprising a generally flat underside adapted to rest on a substrate and an upper surface 16 which may be concave 20 adapted both to support a golf ball 10 and resist displacement of the ball by forces below a minimum. Preferably the tee is made of biodegradable material so that used tees disintegrate when wetted by rain into fibres easily assimilated into a natural surface, which may include cardboard or paper fibre but other materials are known including starch and gelatine which can be broken down by microbial action. The tee is adapted to support the ball at a lower height than a conventional tee so as to mimic a ball lying in grass. To this end, the lowest edge of the golf ball is preferably less than 5mm, possibly as little as 3mm, above the surface upon which the tee rests and the tee has a lensshaped profile and consists of a flat, plate-like lower surface and a concave recess in the upper side profiled so as to form a 'cup' to hold the golf ball.
|
