PURPOSE: A soft handover using a rate matching in a WCDMA(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is provided to combine data transmitted from each base station in a receiving terminal by differentiating puncturing patterns in each base station, so as to reduce loss caused by puncturing as well as obtaining a bigger gain in a more than 1/3 code rate by changing the puncturing patterns. CONSTITUTION: A coder(301) codes channels of data to turbo codes. The first systematic bit X1 of the data is immediately transmitted to a collector(305). Rate matchers(303,304) puncture the first and the third parity bits(Y1,Y3) of the data, and transmit the punctured parity bits(Y1,Y3) to the collector(305). After a time interval "T" elapses, the second systematic bit X2 is immediately transmitted to the collector(305). The rate matchers(303,304) puncture the second and the fourth parity bits(Y2,Y4), and transmit the punctured parity bits(Y2,Y4) to the collector(305).
