PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a free lock 100 with a simple arrangement making adjustments of both the amount of projection of a piston rod and the resilient force of a spring, at the same time on the axis of a cylinder, so that when the free lock is applied to a chair, for example, the inclination angle of the backrest thereof and the resilient force of the spring can be easily adjusted, without the need to install the spring separately. SOLUTION: The free lock 100 adjusts the amount of projection of the piston rod 21 integral with a piston, using fluid in two chambers defined on both sides by the piston in a cylinder 10. A first spring receiver 41 is disposed at the portion of the piston rod 21 projecting outside 4 the cylinder 10, and a second spring receiver 42 is slidably fitted around the outside of the portion of the cylinder 10 near an eye 11. The spring 50 given a resilient force is interposed between the first and second spring receivers 41 and 42.
