PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple device convenient to carry and handle and capable of being used also as a device for holding the end of a marking string, in a device for providing a mark indicative of the height of the finished surface of cast-in-place concrete on the inner wall surface of a concrete block or the inner wall surface of a cast-in-place concrete form. SOLUTION: This marking device is provided with a straight ruler insertion part having a positioning means for the zero point of a straight ruler, a fixing means for holding the ruler inserted in the straight ruler insertion part, and a marker or a marker holding tool provided in the position coinciding with the position of the zero point of the inserted ruler. The straight ruler is inserted in the ruler insertion part to allow the zero point to abut on the contact surface, the marker such as a pencil is fixed to a marker holding member, a second ruler or a pin is mounted in the ruler position of the desired depth of the straight ruler in a perpendicular direction by a cross fitting, the straight ruler is inserted into the block or the form until the second ruler or the pin abuts on the straight ruler, and a mark is provided by the marker.
