PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily grind an end face of only an optical fiber at a low cost. SOLUTION: A rear end side of the optical fiber 8 is inserted respectively into two optical fiber holes 7a made in a ferrule 7, and adhered and fixed thereto (Fig. a). A forward end side of the optical fiber 8 is respectively inserted in an optical fiber hole 11a in a spacer 11 and the forward end thereof is slightly protruded. Next, the forward end face of the optical fiber 8 is ground together with a spacer 113 by using a grinding machine or manually. After the grinding is completed (Fig. c), the spacer 11 is removed from the optical fiber 8 (Fig. d). Other portions than the portion to be ground (the portion of the protrusion h) are accommodated in the optical fiber hole 11a and not deflected, and the forward end face of the optical fiber can be ground though only the easily flexible optical fiber is ground. Since the optical fiber 8 is only passed through the optical fiber hole 11a in the spacer 11, this method is simple, and the grinding cost is low. In addition, the end faces of the optical fibers 8 can be easily arranged.
