PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide modified alumina fine particles which can be formed into dispersing sol stable even when dispersed in an organic solvent, stably dispersible even in high concentration and excellent in transparency. SOLUTION: These modified alumina fine particles are obtained by adding the aqueous solution of the cationic hydrous metal compound shown by formula (1): [M2(OH)nX(2a-n)/b]m or formula (2): [MOX(a-2)/b]m (in the formulae, M is a trivalent or higher metal cation; a is the valence of the metal cation; X is an anion; b is the valence of the anion; 1
