PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and inexpensively classify the solid plastic components of a solid plastic mixture by kind. SOLUTION: A gradient magnetic field is applied to the solid plastic mixture comprising a plurality of diamagnetic solid plastic particles floated or sedimented in a support liquid, preferably, a paramagnetic support liquid, to set a plurality of the plastic particles to the positions corresponding to the kinds thereof on the basis of the paramagnetic susceptibility and density of the plastic particles and the difference in paramagnetic susceptibility and density between them, and the solid plastic components of the solid plastic mixture are classified by kind.
