PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition useful for washing foods, tableware or the body having low toxicities such as oral toxicity, contact toxicity, etc., to the materials and the human body to be washed, safety and more excellent foaming power and detergency than those of a conventionally used detergent component. SOLUTION: In this detergent composition comprising a polyglycerol fatty acid ester as a detergent component composed of a triglycerol fatty acid monoester as a main component, the detergent composition is characterized in that the ratio of triglycerol in the a polyglycerol constituting the polyglycerol fatty acid ester is >=50 mass %.
