PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially preferable method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate by melt polycondensation, which polycarbonate has good colors, is free from coloring even at a high temperature of 380 deg.C or higher, is scarce in lowering of the molecular weight, and has high quality. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate comprises the melt condensation of an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a diaryl carbonate, wherein the diaryl carbonate to be used has (a) a moisture content of 200 ppm by weight or less, (b) a zinc content of 1 ppm by weight or less, and (c) an (o-phenoxyphenyl) (phenyl) carbonate content of 1 ppm by weight or less. |
