PURPOSE: A pole converting motor is provided to achieve an improved operating efficiency of the motor by preventing abnormal operation or deterioration of operation characteristics during two-pole operation. CONSTITUTION: A pole converting motor comprises a rotor; a stator including first to fourth main coils(M1 to M4) for operating in two or four poles and generating a starting torque for the rotor, first to fourth auxiliary coils(S1 to S4) for maintaining rotation of the rotor after the initial start of the rotor during operation in four poles, and first and second main compensation coils(MC1,MC2) for compensating for the abnormality of magnetic field between adjacent coils having the same polarity, from among first to fourth main coils, during operation in two poles; and a relay unit(12) for connecting in serial the first and second main compensation coils, between first and fourth main coils and second and third main coils, during operation in two poles, and connecting in serial the first to fourth main coils and first to fourth auxiliary coils, during operation in four poles.
