PURPOSE: A column type electric power steering device is provided to cut down installation cost, and to eliminate noise of an electronic clutch by substituting the electronic clutch with a tolerance ring. CONSTITUTION: A driving shaft(16) of a driving motor(13) is connected to a worm shaft(17) by a spline(21), and a tolerance ring(20) is inserted between the driving shaft and the spline. Driving force of the driving motor is transmitted to a worm gear(14) to turn with pressing the tolerance ring radially. Rotational force is shut off with sliding in the spline in applying the rotational force to be over the reference value to the tolerance ring. The wave tolerance ring is made of spring steel having elastic force, and inserted between the spline and the driving shaft. The spline is combined with a rivet(22), and separated in applying the rotational force to be over the reference value. Safety is improved with breaking the rivet in wrong operation of the driving motor or breaking the tolerance ring. Expenses are reduced with replacing the electronic clutch by the tolerance ring.
