Leg muscle powered apparatus, preferably a bicycle, comprising a frame 1, a saddle 6, two cranks 2, nonrotatably attached to either end of a crankshaft 12. The end of each crank 2 is rotatably connected to a rigid coupler. A pedal 5 is rotatably mounted on one end of the coupler and a rocker 3 is rotatably mounted on the other end. The rocker is in turn with its other end secured, by means of a hinge 13, to the frame 1. The hinge 13 is situated behind the connecting line g between crankshaft 12 and the tip of the saddle 6. The individual drive elements are arranged in a specific configuration needed for the purposes of the invention. This arrangement is characterized in that the ratio between coupler length L2 and rocker length L1 is between 0.6 and 1 and in that the connecting line from the crankshaft centre 24 to the rocker pivot 34 forms an obtuse angle between 90 and 140 degrees with the connecting line between the crankshaft centre 24 and the pedal axle centre 45. The resultant drive mechanism is biomechanically advantageous in that it provides particularly favourable working conditions for the leg muscles. Particularly high propulsive power can therefore be applied to the drive.

|
