PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a readout operation by displaying the function of a reader to the full even when the usable capacity of a storage means is small. SOLUTION: The image readout system is constituted of a reader (5) which can read out a manuscript and a host computer (1). The host computer is provided with the storage means which is composed of a limited capacity and which can read out and write data, a readout-setting selection means which can select a readout setting operation in the reader and a setting change means wherein, when a readout operation in the reader is started, the size of a usable region in the storage means is confirmed, the size of the usable region is compared with the size of image data to be read out by the reader and the readout setting operation in the readout-setting selection means is changed when the size of the image data is larger.
