<p>Particle filter for exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine can be regenerated without decreasing the pressure in the suction zone or reducing the specific power of the engine. At least one heat exchanger (1) is provided for heating the pre-filtered exhaust gas (11) with the heat evolved by the filtered exhaust gas (13). Preferred Features: A collector providing gas exhaust flow to the heat exchanger (1) is located upstream. At least the particle filter (10) and the heat exchanger (1) are in the form of a structural unit. The device can also include a supplementary heating unit (8), a control unit (9) dependent on temperature, time, gas composition and/or pressure, and a unit for supplying air to the exhaust gas flow. The heat exchanger (1) has an enlarged surface structure. The heat exchanger can have a catalytic coating in at least one partial region. Upstream of the heat exchanger (1) in the direction of movement of the exhaust gas, a coupling conduit (2) includes a branch point for dividing the exhaust gas flow into a main gas flow and an auxiliary gas flow. The device can include two heat exchangers. An independent claim is given for a process for the regeneration of an exhaust gas treatment system, notably a particle filter, where the exhaust gas is divided into a main flow and an auxiliary flow, and the auxiliary flow is passed to the exhaust gas treatment system (10). During the regeneration process the exhaust gas is passed to a second exhaust gas treatment system. The process is applied during the cold start phase of an internal combustion engine.</p> |
