PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell device capable of certainly securing the safety even if the fuel gas leaks during the operation of the fuel cell, and to provide a method of operating the fuel cell device. SOLUTION: This fuel cell device 10 is formed by housing a fuel cell FC, a fuel supply part 12, a water supply part 14, a reformer 15, and a blower B in a casing 11. A hydrogen concentration sensor S for detecting the concentration of gaseous hydrogen is provided inside the casing 11. A branch line L7 having a selector valve SV on the way thereof and having a tip L7e opened inside the casing 11 is branched from an air supply line L2 for connecting the blower B to the fuel cell FC to each other. A control device 5 for the fuel cell device 10 controls the opening and closing of the selector valve SV on the basis of a detection value of the hydrogen concentration sensor S. |
