PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remotely control the recording of a television broadcasting program or the like using a CATV from a remote location. SOLUTION: In a bidirectional CATV system for which a center unit 1 and a cable modem 8 are connected through a CATV channel 7, a hard disk 11 for recording the television broadcasting program transmitted from the center unit 1 through the CATV channel 7 to the cable modem 8 is provided, electronic mail transmitted from the Internet 5 to the center unit 1 is transmitted further through the CATV channel 7 to the cable modem 8, and the cable modem 8 analyzes the contents of the electronic mail and executes a processing instructed by the electronic mail. Thus, the recording of the television broadcasting program and the distribution of digital contents, etc., using the CATV are remotely controlled from the remote location by using a portable information terminal coping with the Internet. |
