PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine which can transmit a double-side manuscript by a one-system scanner as in the present situation and by a one- time transmission, by keeping the execution of rear face scanning in a standby state until a scan face of a manuscript is reset to a rear face after scanning a front face. SOLUTION: To select a double-side transmission mode for scanning and transmitting image information on both front and rear faces of a manuscript, an operation displaying section 19 is provided with a double-side transmission key 21. When a double-side transmission mode is selected by the double-side transmission key 21, a system controlling section 16 conducts front face scanning and rear face scanning in one transmission in a burst mode. One scanning operation consists of the front face scanning for scanning image information on a front face of a manuscript which is set as a scan face for a scanner first, and the rear face scanning for scanning image information of a rear face of the manuscript which is reset as a scan face after the front face is scanned. There is a standby time for which the execution of rear face scanning is kept in a standby state until the rear face is set as a scan face after the front face is scanned. The standby time is managed by a real time clock 22.
