PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit the selecting operation to be carried out via a menu screen and to automatically start reproduction of a recording medium about a recording medium reproducer which starts reproduction of the recording medium by a selecting operation via the menu screen when the recording medium is reproduced. SOLUTION: This recording medium reproducer reproduces a recording medium by a selecting operation carried out via menu screen and is provided with a reproduction means which reproduces the contents information received from the recording medium and the file structure information including the recording position information on a file composing the contents information, a calculation means which calculates the quantity of data of contents information from the file structure information that is reproduced by the reproduction means and a control means which selects the contents information having the largest quantity of data calculated by the calculation means and then starts reproduction of the reproduction means.
