PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the narrowing of an end surface opposite a magnetic disk, and to increase reliability by reducing stress and preventing peeling-off in a thin film magnetic head and a magnetic disk device having the thin film magnetic head mounted. SOLUTION: This magnetic disk device is provided with a lower and upper magnetic poles 15 and 3 having an insulating film 13 formed therebetween. The upper magnetic pole 3 is separated into first and second upper magnetic poles 1 and 2, an end surface 1a1 is formed on the first upper magnetic pole 1 oppositely to a disk, and the second upper magnetic pole 2 has a narrow tip part 2a, a wide upper surface part 2c, and an inclined part 2b connecting these two parts, and a peculiar point 2a3 is formed roughly in a square shape.
