PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte fuel cell with a smaller man-hours in comparison with the conventional one by improving the method of manufacturing a gas diffusion layer. SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing a gas diffusion electrode for polymer electrolyte fuel cell has a process for dipping the conductive porous base material with the water repellent treatment solution, a process for drying the conductive porous base material, a process for forming a carbon layer on the conductive porous base material and a process for baking the conductive porous base material having the carbon layer in this order.
