PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser and an optical pickup, in which the optical path difference suitable for the emission wavelength can be ensured even in a common optical system, when two semiconductor lasers having different emission wavelengths are mounted on the same submount. SOLUTION: A first semiconductor laser 2 for DVD, having an emission wavelength of 650 nm and a second semiconductor laser 3 for CD having an emission wavelength of 780 nm are arranged on a submount 1. The first semiconductor laser 2 is disposed, to project slightly (about 10 μm) from the end face 1a of the submount 1. The second semiconductor laser 3 has a main emission edge 3a, located at a position retracted by about 100 μm from the main emission edge 2a of the first semiconductor laser 2. |
