A personalized binder comprises front and back covers that are hingedly coupled together. A transparent plastic sheet is secured to the front cover, and has an ink receptive layer comprising a porous pigment dispersed in or mixed with a binder including a water soluble polymer. A pocket is formed between the transparent sheet and the front cover. A personalized binder comprises front and back covers (14, 16) that are hingedly coupled together and that include arrangements for holding papers in between. A transparent plastic sheet (22) extends over a substantial area of the front cover, and secured to the front cover. The transparent plastic sheet is provided with an ink receptive layer comprising a porous pigment dispersed in or mixed with a binder including a water soluble polymer. The ink receptive layer is semi-transparent. A pocket is formed between the transparent sheet and the front cover. A visual image may be inserted into the pocket and traced by writing with a pen (34) onto the ink receptive layer. An Independent claim is also included for a method of forming the personalized binder, comprising inserting the visual image into the pocket, tracing the part of the visual image onto the transparent plastic sheet using a pen, and drying the ink. The pen utilizes water based ink, solvent based ink, or gel ink.
