<p>A gas pin assembly for use in a mold having a cavity in gas assisted injection molding includes a sleeve and an insert. The sleeve is extendable through the mold and has an inner surface defining a passageway extending from a first end of the sleeve for receiving pressurized gas and a second end for discharging pressurized gas. The insert has a first portion attachable to the inner surface of the sleeve defining the passageway and a second portion which together with the inner surface of the second end of the sleeve, when the insert is attached to the sleeve, define therebetween an opening for discharging pressurized gas. Advantageously, the insert includes a mid portion having a reduced cross-section disposed between the first and the second portions. Also disclosed are methods and gas assisted injection molding apparatus employing the gas pin assembly.</p> |
