<p>A device for attachment to the head of a horse to enable recording of respiratory sounds in the intensely exercising animal. The device (10) includes a lightweight hood (20) that is placed on the head (30) of a horse. A pouch (24) is located on the front of the hood (20) over the horse's forehead for holding a recording device. A mounting apparatus is provided for a microphone (40) including a thin shaft (42) having a proximal end (44) attached to the hood (20) and a distal end (46) carrying the microphone (40) such that the microphone is disposed in front of the horse's nose. Wires extending through the shaft (42) connect the microphone (40) to the recording device. Methods for predicting racing performance in a horse by analyzing respiratory sounds are further provided.</p> |
