The invention relates to a method for applying digital data to images. The images and/or the printing head are transported in a slow-scan-direction and the digital image data is applied in a fast-scan-direction, the positional data of the images and/or the applied image data being collected after or during transportation. The image data is applied to the image in a precise manner as control parameters for applying the image data are derived from the positional data.
