PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for making a tassel by automatically twisting yarn to a specified thickness and keeping the tassel firmly are provided, thereby improving working efficiency, quality and reliability of a product by its beautiful external appearance. CONSTITUTION: The tassel making apparatus comprises: a table(10) with a control box and an operating part; a rotary plate(40) with a cam and a height control rod on a side surface to be rotated with an arm projected on the outer peripheral surface by driving of a motor; a plate(50) with a supporting rod on a side surface to slide yarn and clasp a rod(124); a lower plate(60) with a spring on the outer peripheral surface of a guide rod and a transfer roller at its end part; a supporting device(130) for preventing the swing of the plate by operation of a cylinder shaft; a driven gear(110) and a driving gear(111); a yarn hanger(120) arranged at the upper part of a center shaft of the driven gear. The apparatus is characterized in that the yarn hanger is subjected to putting into a steam vessel and heating at 120 to 150deg.C for 1 to 2 hr to cause a tassel to be firm when hardened, as the twisted yarn of several tens to several hundreds strands is hang tightly on the yarn hanger.
