<p>This invention relates to a means for increasing the drag on a munition to correct its course, in particular to a drag brake for correcting the course of a projectile or unguided bomb. The constant military requirement to enhance the accuracy of munitions has lead to the development of smart guidance systems. However, such systems are not suitable for use in low cost munitions and various other means have been developed to correct the range dispersion of such munitions including devices which consist of protruding braking flaps (4) or of nose sections which can be ejected to leave substantially flat forward faces to the munition. Most known systems are not suitable however on grounds of cost, size and complexity and it is an object of the present invention to provide an inexpensive, compact and non-complex drag brake consisting of a single piece drag means to reduce complexity and cost. The drag means is also designed to lie upon the outer surface of the munition until deployed to meet the size constraints imposed by standard munitions.</p> |
