Immersion basin comprises an inlet device for a mixture of a lubricant based on mineral oil, fatty acids and high pressure additives, and phosphoric acid. At least two of the outlets of the inlet device are arranged in the basin so that the mixture is able to flow over the base of the basin without being hindered by the workpieces. An Independent claim is also included for a process for treating the surfaces of metallic workpieces, especially tubes using a mixture of a lubricant based on mineral oil, fatty acids and high pressure additives, and phosphoric acid. Preferred Features: The outlets of the inlet device are distributed over the longitudinal extension of the basin. A holder for the workpieces is also included and consists of a moving basket.
