<p>A compound of formula (I) is new; where R1 = hydrogen or hydroxyl; R2 = hydroxyl, cyano, nitro, amino, aminomethyl, N-alkylamino or N-alkylaminomethyl where the alkyl is 1-6C alkyl, N,N-dialkylamino or N,N-dialkylaminomethyl where the alkyl is 1-6C alkyl; R1 and R2 being ortho to each other and meta or para to the adjoining phenyl; R3 and R4 each = hydrogen or 1-6C alkyl, independently selected in each -OCHR3-CHR4- unit; R5 = hydrogen, 1-100C alkyl, phenyl, 7-100C aralkyl or alkylaryl, or acyl of formula -C(O)-R6, where R6 = 1-30C alkyl, phenyl or 7-36C aralkyl or alkaryl; n = integer 5-100. A fuel composition comprises a major amount of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel engine and an effective deposit-controlling amount of the above compound. A method for reducing engine deposits in an internal combustion engine involved operating the engine with the above fuel composition. A fuel concentrate comprises an inert stable oleophilic organic solvent of b.pt. 150-400 [deg]C and 10-70 wt.% of the above compound.</p> |
