New DNA representing the Hero gene, for preparing transgenic plants resistant to Globodera cyst nematodes

A DNA sequence (I) representing the Hero gene which encodes a protein (II) able to impart resistance to Globodera cyst nematodes, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) recombinant vectors or plasmids containing at least one (I); (2) transgenic plants and seeds containing the Hero gene or its resistance-mediating fragment or variant; and (3) a protein (II), or its fragment or derivative, that imparts resistance to Globodera cyst nematodes.
