PURPOSE: To provide a recorder capable of recording information so as to be reproduced even by a player for a playback-only DVD on which information is recorded independently of real time in the case of recording the information on a DVD-R in real time. CONSTITUTION: This recorder is provided with an encoder 123 for encoding information at a fixed coding rate, a system controller 125 for converting the encoded information into format information conforming to a recording format, a pickup 120 for recording the converted format information on a DVD-R1R, forms a VOBU while making the reproduction required time of the VOBU in the recording format to be fixed time corresponding to its coding rate, forms a VOB while making the number of VOBUs included in the VOB in the recording format to be a fixed number, generates address information showing a recording position on the DVD-R1R of the VOBUs whose reproduction required time is made to be the fixed time and generates the format information with the generated address information included in the VOBUs.
