A cylinder head gasket (1) for an internal combustion engine is formed of a metal plate (10, 10b) extending substantially throughout an entire area to be sealed. The metal plate has a plurality of holes (2) corresponding to cylinder bores of the engine, a plurality of beads (3) surrounding the respective holes, and at least one area (W) situated between the holes adjacent to each other. Seal coatings (4, 4') are deposited above the beads (3) in the area. The seal coating has heatproof characteristic and compressibility to strengthen the surface pressure of the beads at the area. <IMAGE>
