A method is provided for converting mixing apparatus into spray coating apparatus, in which granular products are coated as they fall from an existing outlet (10), including the fitting of a sensor (33), at least one spray nozzle 19a and a spray control unit 30. The control unit regulates a liquid supply pump 13, so that the coating liquid is only sprayed while granular material is exiting the outlet (10). Preferably, the pump 13 is mounted on a container 11 in which the liquid is stored. The liquid is pumped through a non-return valve 16, a filter 17 and adjustable flow nozzles 19b to spray nozzles 19a positioned around the outlet (10). The granular material may be fed by augers, driven by motors 4,9 whose operation is detected by sensors 33,34. The method is suitable for coating chicken feed with molasses, whilst avoiding clogging of augers. A non-sprayed feed may be supplied through an adjacent outlet (5) as an alternative to the coated products. |
