PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piping inspecting method, capable of readily interring the planar laying position of piping and capable of also estimating the planar laying position of even a small-diameter piping. SOLUTION: A sensor head 3, having a magnetic coil 11, is inserted in the piping 100 intercepted by a shield body F, and a magnet 7 is allowed to approach the sensor head 3 within a possible range through the piping shield body F. The position of the sensor head 3 is inferred at the position of the magnet 7, by the intensity of the detection signal of the magnetic coil 11. An electromagnet can be used as the magnet. This piping inspecting method is useful, when the piping 100 is inspected by drawing the sensor head to move the same in the piping 100.
