SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing metal block on table that is preliminarily placed according to predetermined level of cutting-off; clamping block; cutting off defective layer and cutting remained part of block. Cutting is realized by means of cutter from lower portion of block along its whole width. Block is moved horizontally against cutter. Apparatus for performing the method includes housing with wedge cutter rigidly secured to it; table for placing metal block and powered frame for clamping block.
