PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer having 4 satisfactory polarized wave crosstalk characteristics in the range of temperature in use. SOLUTION: The angle which is formed by the quadrangular diagonal line of the opening part of a quadratic prism shaped narrow pore 15a and the straight line connecting two stress imparting members of a polarized wave maintaining optical fiber 14 is set at 45 deg.±15 deg.. The polarized wave maintaining optical fiber 14 and a single mode optical fiber 13 are fixed to a capillary 15 by an adhesive of <=45 in Shore D hardness after hardening.
