PURPOSE: A method for preparing a cinnamic acid derivative is provided, which uses cheap reaction materials, comprises simple process, and can be applied to the industrial production easily. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of reacting a benzene derivative of the formula 2 with acrylic acid in the presence of a base and a dichlorobistrialkylphosphine-Pd complex catalyst ((R'3P)2PdCl2) to obtain a cinnamic acid derivative represented by the formula 1, wherein R is H or methoxy group; and R' is an alkyl group of C1-C4. The content of the Pd-complex catalyst is 0.000001-1 mol% based on the benzene derivative, and is preferably dichlorobistriisopropylphosphine-Pd complex or dichlorobistri(t-butyl)phosphine-Pd complex. The content of acrylic acid 1-5 equivalent based on 1 equivalent of the benzene derivative. The content of the base is 0.5-3 equivalent based on 1 equivalent of the benzene derivative and is selected from the group consisting of anhydrous sodium carbonate, anhydrous potassium carbonate and sodium hydrogen carbonate.
