PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical character reader capable of efficiently conducting correcting work of numerals contained in an operational expression. SOLUTION: An image of a document taken in with a scanner 1 is sent to a character recognition part 21 of a personal computer 2, character recognition is conducted in the character recognition part 21, and recognition data 23 is outputted. A recognition result check.correction part 22 conducts all computing check at first when the computing check of the recognition data 23 is conducted, and then all fields within the operational expression, where computing error is detected, is set as a target, and correcting work is advanced in an efficient order so that movement between fields is performed, for example, from the upper left of the document to its lower right.
