PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling computer multi-system capable of switching computers in an on-line state when abnormality is generated in the system. SOLUTION: In the multi-system mutually connecting both computers (1), (2) through a network 109 and sharing an input/output device 100, the active/non- active state of the other system computer is checked by the other system active/ non-active monitoring program 113 when the its own system computer is in a maintenance mode, and when the other system computer is active, monitors the operation mode of the other system computer by the other system computer monitoring program 103. When the other system computer is not 'active' or not in the on-line mode, the computer forcedly ends a maintenance work operation program of its own system, changes the set values of an operation mode class storage area so that its own system is set to the on-line mode and the other system is set to the maintenance mode and shifts its own system to the on-line mode without stopping the whole system.
