PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp the constitution of a pipeline and to discover the cavity part of a pipe by smoothly passing a joint part of each kind, a bent part or cavity part of the like to discriminate them. SOLUTION: A piping 100, which is formed by connecting pipes 101, 102 with a joint 103, is inspected. A sensor head 3, having a magnetic coil serving both as excitation and detection, is inserted into the piping 100 and moved in one direction to monitor the signal of voltage fluctuations appearing in the magnetic oil. By comparing preliminarily calculated signals specific to the joint of every kind, the bent part or cavity part or the like with the signal of voltage fluctuations, the constituent element or state of the piping 100 at each position is estimated. A standard head 4, having the same constitution as the sensor head 3, is further used along with the sensor head 3 to constitute a bridge circuit 2b and the standard head 4 is combined with a standard pipe 200.
